Video Game and Board Game Competitions

Video game or board game competitions are a great way to get the entire family or a group of friends together. This is also a great way to make playing video games more social for kids who may want to sit alone at night playing video games in their rooms. Pick a multi-player video game or an interactive board game for everyone to play. Keep track of who scores the most points or wins the most heats of play. If you are playing a game that only two people can play at once, set up a tournament bracket on a poster board to make the games more competitive. Make sure to have plenty of snacks available, so non-players can be entertained while others are playing.

Watching movies or going to the movies may seem like a very common and unexciting activity for youths to do on a Friday night, but there are many small adaptations one can make to a movie night more fun. Movie theaters are also a great place to let kids go on their own if they are old enough. Dropping kids off at the theater and picking them back up outside the theater doors, letting them sit in the actual movie by themselves make kids feel independent and the night more fun. You can also incorporate dinner before the movie or ice cream afterwards, to make a night of the outing. If you want to stay home and have a movie night, make it a themed night. For example, only watch movies with a certain actor or only watch animated movies. You can also make special meals as a family that go with the movie's theme, for example if you are watching a film set in China, prepare Chinese cuisine together.

When the weather permits, outdoor games are a great activity for kids to do on a Friday night. Gather a group of your child's school or neighborhood friends and organize a game of hide and seek, kick-the-can, or flashlight tag. Many times, kids find these games more fun and challenging when they are played in the dark. Make sure to set boundaries, such as your back yard, as to where kids can run and hide during the games, so kids are not wandering around too far on their own without supervision. An adult can supervise from a seat on the deck or from inside a house window.

After supper on a Friday night, there are several activities that he and his family or friends can partake in. Look for places, such as bowling alleys, miniature golf courses, or go-cart tracks that host activities that kids will appreciate doing on a Friday night. Many cities also have indoor jungle gyms, laser tag arenas or arcades designed specifically for kids, that stay open Friday nights. Many of these places are designed for kids to go off on their own and play and generally have an area for parents to wait. Give your children rules on how to behave and when to meet up with you.
