On your special day, choose any color you want. The contrast between dark purple and cream colors complements an elegant, traditional wedding or a nontraditional, one-of-a-kind event. The biggest challenge of choosing an eggplant color is that if it is too dark, it may appear black, and if it is too light, it won't be eggplant.
Since traditional wedding cakes are covered in fondant or marzipan, a cream cake would be more practical. Bakers will have to add food coloring to the icing, which may or may not meet exacting standards of the bride and groom. A cake with too much food coloring may look black, while a cake with too little food coloring will be a lighter purple. Accent a cream cake with eggplant piping, flowers, or beads. The possibilities of cake decoration ideas are as wide as the imagination; decorate cakes with ribbons or even gilded grapes. If you choose a nontraditional route, with cupcakes, you can mix cupcakes with cream-colored or eggplant-colored icing.
You can find daisies, irises, hydrangeas, lilies, roses and orchids in deep purple. You can pair those flowers with cream-colored roses or calla lilies. Flowers aren't just for bouquets and boutonnières, but can also be used for centerpieces at the reception and as part of the ceremony decor. You can find edible purple pansies to adorn your wedding cake.
Centerpieces and Table Settings
Dark napkins and placemats can add a vivid contrast to a cream tablecloth. Wrap eggplant napkins with a cream ribbon or napkin ring to break up the color. Drape chairs with cream or eggplant ribbons or sashes. You can also combine the two, either alternating cream and eggplant sashes per chair, or twisting two sashes on one chair. You can be creative with your centerpieces as well. If you choose to decorate your table with items other than flowers, choose a mix of eggplant and cream beads, bulbs or candles. You can accent your centerpieces with feathers, dying them if necessary to get the color you need. If you are decorating with fruit, use blackberries or grapes as a dark purple alternative to the eggplant vegetable.
You may want to decorate your wedding ceremony as well as the reception hall. Choose decorations that fit the personality of the couple and vibe of the wedding. For example, if you are having a traditional church wedding, decorate the pews with cream-colored tulle, accented by eggplant bows. If you want an individualistic twist, search for a fabric with a unique pattern to fit your wedding. Or, feel free to decorate your wedding with balloons, giving it a lighthearted touch.
When you think of wedding stationery, don't just think of wedding invitations. Place cards, menus, and signage should also follow the wedding colors as well. A cream background with eggplant writing is an elegant and subtle combination, while the eggplant background and cream writing is a bolder choice.
