Combine braids and dreaded hair as another Medusa-inspired look.

Create a hairdo inspired by Medusa, a monster of Greek mythology. Medusa was a beautiful woman with whom Poseidon, Greek god of the sea, became enamored. To escape Poseidon's clutches, Medusa sought refuge in a temple of Athena, goddess of wisdom, who ignored Medusa's prayers and instead turned her into a monster with snakes for hair. Sculpt hairstyles based on Medusa's snake hair for costume parties or everyday wear. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Fully Braided Updo

    • Braid every last section of your hair to create this version of a Medusa hairdo. Secure all braids with coated elastic hair bands and twist the braids into an updo. Shape the updo so that some of the braids are bent and stick out, and use pins to keep the 'do in place. Spray the entire hairstyle with heavy-duty hairspray to keep it stiff and the braids up and in place.

    Faux Snake 'Do

    • Brush out hair and braid a few pieces only. Braid thickness is up to you. Pull all of your hair into a bun around the crown of your head and secure with bobby pins and clips. Take small, thin fake rubber snakes and weave them throughout the hairstyle. Use hair pins to keep the snakes in place. Place some of the snakes so a few snake faces come down around your forehead and others wind around your ears. Spill some glitter into your hair to add to this ethereal look.

    Dreaded 'Do

    • Those with already-dreaded hair have an easy time with this look, though faux dreads can easily be created by twisting sections of hair and securing them with coated elastic hair bands and lots of hair gel or hairspray. Once hair is fully dreaded, use even more hair gel and hairspray to sculpt some of the dreads so they stand upright. Create an even more intricate version of this look by adding colored hair extensions and dreading them as well.

    Loose Updo

    • A more feminine version of the Medusa 'do that can be worn for an evening out, first blow dry hair with a diffuser. Apply a volumizing product as you blow dry and finger-comb your tresses to create loose waves and curls. Leave strands on either side of your face and pin-curl sections, piling them loosely on top of your head. Keep a few other loose strands out to create a soft, romantic look.
