Natural Wood Craft Ideas
Wood crafts date back to the origin of wood itself. Native Americans were avid users of all types of wood and bark. Early modes of transportation such as wagons, stage coaches and horse-drawn buggies made use of the available wood. The use of wood has not lessened over the years. Natural wood crafts are created just as much today as they were in the 17 and 1800s, when almost everything was made from wood.

Kitchenware
-
Wooden kitchen utensils and other kitchenware are handy for cooking and baking. Wood does not conduct heat so you can stir a boiling pot with a wooden spoon without lowering the cooking temperature. Bowls, dish racks and cabinet dividers made from natural wood are durable and will last for many years. You can simply sand away nicks and scratches, and refinish the wood if necessary, and make a variety of natural wood cutting boards to use in your own kitchen or as part of a gift.
Child Desks and Tables
-
Small children's desks finished with a clear coat of varnish are durable, easy to clean and can be passed on to younger children. Children can use child-size art and work tables with their name painted on them. Trunk type toy boxes personalized or with colorful stencil paintings will help organize the child's room. Children like smaller size boxes that they can keep their private treasures in.

Weathered Boards
-
Weathered natural wood boards from old barns or sheds make really rustic looking canvases for paintings and signs. Old weathered boards have lost all paint residues over the years so are easy to paint on. You can use these same boards to create antique looking rustic wall shelves for the kitchen or any other room.
Apply replicas of antique food container labels. Make the edges of the picture rough, worn and slightly damaged for an authentic look. Create signs by placing three or four boards together and gluing on an antique poster. Try adding photos of early ancestors to a group of weathered boards.
Bookcases and Window Boxes
-
You can make a variety of sizes of bookcases and shelves with natural wood. Specially designed shelves that fit in a particular corner are especially useful in making use of space. Window boxes for flowers and indoor herb gardens made with natural wood should be lined with plastic planters to preserve the wood. Make small art easels in a variety of sizes for displaying small paintings or collectible plates. A clear coat of varnish makes them waterproof for easy cleaning.
