Gold Bar, Washington Activities

Located 27 miles from East Seattle, Gold Bar, Washington had a population of only 2,114 in 2009. Surrounded by natural beauty, Gold Bar is located near Shaw Lake, Wallace Lake, Little Cavanaugh Lake, the Skykomish River and Wallace Falls State Park. Although the town is small, it's full of attractions and activities individuals and families will enjoy all year.

  1. Hiking and Biking

    • Wallace Falls has a five-mile hike. The trail is available all year through a forest with views of a 265-foot waterfall. You'll hike across bridges and creeks. Deception Falls Nature Trail is a one-mile hike that provides year-round access along the Tye River. Dolittle Park has several miles of asphalt roads for biking and motorcycling. Wallace Falls Loop is a well-maintained mountain bike trail where beginner, intermediate and advanced bikers bike to Wallace Lake and Wallace River through logging roads and trails. Horseback riding opportunities are also available.

    Water Activities

    • Just outside Gold Bar on Route 2, you can swim in the Skykomish River for $5 per day all summer. You can also launch your kayak and rafts from the gravel pull-off on either side of the bridge. Enjoy whitewater rafting adventures with Alpine Adventures. You can choose one- or seven-day adventure trips. Enjoy a relaxing float along the river or get your adrenaline pumping as you fight whitewater and cascading waterfalls. Visit the local lakes for fishing, scuba diving, sailboarding and boating.

    Winter Activities

    • Visit Stevens Pass Ski Resort to ski and snowboard 37 runs on 1,125 acres. The resort has 10 lifts for downhill skiers and snowboarders, and skiing is available from December through April. Stevens Pass Ski and Snowboard School is available for those who want to learn how to ski. Cross-country skiing is also available. Ski Stevens Pass Nordic Center and Lake Wenatchee State Park for groomed cross-country trails. Mountain climbing activities can also be scheduled.

    Other Activities

    • In addition to wildlife and bird watching, visitors to Wallace Falls State Park outside Gold Bar can enjoy rock climbing and metal detecting. Golf, tennis, soccer and horseshoe pits are also available. Dog sledding, snowshoeing and snowmobiling are available in the winter. Rent a cabin or yurt and stay a few days in the state park. Learning centers are available. Conference centers and historic structures can accommodate large meetings, weddings and other events.
