Water Is Leaking From the Door of My GE Nautilus Dishwasher

The GE Nautilus series of dishwashers come with features like a touch pad and two wash arms for maximum scrubbing. This series offers both under-the-counter and portable dishwashers. While it is not common, your dishwasher may occasionally leak from the door. Repair this problem yourself, and avoid paying for expensive repair fees. If you cannot fix the problem, contact a GE authorized repair person. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Door/Door Gasket

    • If your GE Nautilus dishwasher is leaking from the door, verify that the door is completely closed. Push in any racks preventing the door from closing, or move the dishes around in the dishwasher. Check the door gaskets, and see if they are torn or brittle. Replace the gaskets since you normally can't fix these items. If you are using the dishwasher for the first time, your dishwasher may leak until the gaskets are properly seated. See if the control panel is knocking against the cabinet, and reposition the dishwasher.

    Loading/Detergent

    • Always properly load your dishwasher. Do not place large items near the door. Water can bounce off the dishes and through the cracks in the door frame. Always load the bottom rack. This prevents the spray arm from directly hitting the door frame. The force of the water coming from the spray arm can cause door leaks. Use less detergent if your dishwasher is over-sudsing. This causes water and suds to come out of the door. Only use fresh detergent.

    Spray Arm/Main Tub Seal

    • Check the spray arm if water is leaking out of the front of your GE Nautilus dishwasher. A broken spray arm can cause water to forcefully spray around the tub. If the arm is broken, you need a new one since you can't normally fix this component. Examine the main tub seal, which is located beneath the bottom rack, spray arm and impellers. Unplug the dishwasher, and see if the seal is compromised. If it is, pry it out with a crowbar, and get a new seal from a GE parts dealer.

    Water Inlet Valve/Float Switch

    • A defective water inlet valve or float switch can cause your GE dishwasher to overflow, causing water to leak out of the door. Try shutting off the valve. If it won't move, replace it since it's difficult to fix this part. If the float switch is stuck, press on it, and see if that releases it. If it is still stuck, remove any objects blocking it. Get a new switch if it has failed.
