Picture Ideas for Toddlers
Photographing a child is a difficult thing because you never know when a temper tantrum is on the horizon. When taking photos of your toddler, use a safe and comfortable environment, where the child feels happy. Picture ideas for toddlers include indoor and outdoor shots. When done properly, no one will be able to tell the difference between photos you took yourself and ones taken by a professional.

Preparing the Child
-
Toddlers are excitable, but that happiness can quickly turn when the child doesn't want to do something. Before taking a single photograph, prepare your child for the scene. Avoid using overly complicated terms and phrases, but explain that you want to take a few pictures. Some children might respond better if you explain that you are taken photos for a grandmother or favorite uncle. Ask the child questions about where she wants to take the photograph or what kind of things she wants in her new picture.
Setting the Scene
-
When you visit a professional photography studio, you might notice that the photographer keeps a large number of props around, especially when working with children. Toys keep the child distracted and happy, long enough to take a memorable picture. Use the same idea yourself, by gathering a few of your child's favorite toys. Depending on his preference, you might even discover new photo opportunities. For example, a little boy that loves toy cars would look nice posed with a selection of his favorite cars.

Going Outside
-
If the weather is nice and your child likes the outdoors, then head outside for your photo shoot. Arrange the toddler in a sandbox, filled with a variety of sand toys. Take a few test photos and then let her run wild, playing in the sand and trying to build sand castles. For action shots, spend the day at the park or playground. Capture images of your child playing on the swings, climbing a tree, and even sliding down the slide.
Staying Inside
-
For a more posed and traditional shot, stick to your home. Use furniture and items from around your house to make the best image. For example, take a photo of him sitting on the bottom step of your staircase, with your pet cat or dog licking his face. When shooting inside, make sure that you have enough natural light that the photo doesn't look washed out. If the room is slightly dark, then try opening a few windows.
