Christmas Card Projects Using Cricut

Have fun making handmade Christmas cards with the Cricut. The Cricut is a personal electronic die cutting machine that can be used for scrapbooking, card making and even cake decorating. The Cricut uses electronic cartridges that are pre-loaded with various designs, phrases or fonts. One Cricut cartridge allows enough creativity to create multiple Christmas card designs. There are multiple Cricut cartridges available for virtually any occasion.

Christmas Village Cartridge

  • Create a Christmas card resembling a nativity or winter village scene. The Cricut Christmas Village cartridge contains multiple images to create a nativity or winter village scene. An option for creating a nativity scene could incorporate shadow images cut from black cardstock. Sponge various hues of blue ink on white card stock to resemble a night sky. Add a bit of glitter if desired. Mount the images on the card with foam adhesive for extra dimension.

Gingerbread Cartridge

  • Create a mitten or stocking themed Christmas card using the Gingerbread Cricut cartridge. Cut a pair of mittens or stockings using the corresponding image on the keypad. Decorate them with glitter, stamps or beads. If you have children, they could help you with this project by drawing small designs on the mittens and stockings. Hang the decorated images from the top of the card with coordinating ribbon or string. If desired, you can add dimension and interest to this project by cutting a shadow image from the Gingerbread cartridge. Place the shadow image behind the featured image.

Winter Lace Cartridge

  • The Winter Lace cartridge is packed full of snowflakes that can be used as a background or a focal point on your handmade Christmas card. One option would be to cut several various sizes of your favorite snowflakes from the Winter Lace cartridge and decorate some with glitter. Sponge coordinating colors of ink along the edges of others. Using brads and double-sided adhesive, randomly place the snowflakes on the front of your card. If desired, write "JOY" on the card and use a large snowflake to replace the "O" in the word.

Trim the Tree Cartridge

  • Create a handmade Christmas card that reminds the recipient of holiday tree ornaments. Each image is designed using patterns of swirls. Add depth to the intricate design by backing it with a shadow image. Using patterned holiday themed paper and coordinating cardstock, create a layered Christmas card. Attach your favorite Trim the Tree image to the top of the layers. Decorate the images with small self adhesive rhinestones to add sparkle.
