Ruger introduced the .22 Charger in 2008. The pistol is based on the receiver of the Ruger 10/22 rifle, which was first produced in 1964. The semi-automatic pistol fires .22 Long Rifle rimfire cartridges from a 10-round magazine. The barrel is 10 inches long and the receiver comes with an integrated rail for you to install you choice of optics.
Traditional scopes come in the form of tubes with black cross hairs installed. Much like a telescope, pistol scopes magnify the target and overlay it with the cross hairs. Adjusting the cross hairs requires turning one of two knobs on the tube of the scope. One knob adjusts the windage, or the right or left placement of the cross hairs; the other knob adjusts the elevation, the up and down placement. Traditional scopes provide the best accuracy for target shooting and hunting.
Red Dot Scopes
Red dot scopes replace the cross hairs of traditional scopes with an electronically projected bright dot. To the shooter, the dot appears to hover in space and indicates the point of impact when placed on the target. The advantage of red dot scopes is their better performance in low light situations. Red dot scopes do not typically have the same levels of magnification as traditional scopes and are subject to battery or electronics failure.
Holographic sights are significantly different from traditional and red dot scopes. These sights are not true scopes because they do not have tubes or provide any magnification of the target. A small reticle is projected on a single pane of glass. The advantage of holographic or reflex sights is fast target acquisition, because the shooter does not need to focus exclusively on the target or even close an eye to acquire it.
Selecting a Scope
The best scope to select depends on the situation. Ruger provides an optional bipod to allow you to fire from a bench rest. When you use the bipod with a traditional scope, you can expect tight groups at distances up to 50 yards. Red dot and holographic sights are best in situations where you expect to be using the pistol in low light or require the ability to track multiple targets at the same time.
