Make a flying-carpet cake on which to place Jasmine.

In 1992, Disney released the movie, "Aladdin," adding Jasmine to the ever-growing list of princesses. If you are planning a birthday focus on princess Jasmine specifically, make a Jasmine cake. Knowing a few decorating ideas will help you decide on the right cake for you. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Flying-Carpet Cake

    • In the movie, Jasmine sees the world with Prince Ali on a flying carpet. Use several sheet cakes to design a carved cake that looks like the carpet. Use a serrated knife to add a wave shape to the cakes. Then cover them in buttercream frosting or rolled fondant. When working with fondant, cover it in a thin layer of frosting. Then roll the fondant out to a 1/4-inch thickness. Apply it to the cake. Add decorations using cutout pieces of fondant or by using an airbrush and edible paints. Once completed, place plastic Aladdin and Jasmine figures on top of the cake.

    Toys

    • Use small, plastic Jasmine toys to decorate a sheet cake. After the cake is baked and cooled, cover it in your choice of frosting colors. Place the small toy figurines of Jasmine and Prince Ali on top of the cake to create a scene. Look for Jasmine-themed "Aladdin" toys at your local toy store or online toy retailers.

    Princess Cake

    • Princess cakes use a plastic doll and a cake cooked in a bowl. Bake a cake in a large mixing bowl. The narrow end of the bowl is the top of the dress and the wide end is the bottom. Once cooled, cut a circle out of the center of the cake that extends from the top to the bottom and insert an undressed Jasmine doll in the center. Decorate the cake and the undressed doll with frosting in a piping bag or a zip-top bag with a corner cut off. Use an image of Jasmine in her wedding dress as a guide or design your own dress style.

    Edible Decorations

    • Instead of placing plastic toys on a cake, make the characters out of modeling chocolate for a different decorating method. Gum paste is another edible option. Roll gum paste into thin sheets and cut out 2-D shapes from the gum paste. Cut out Jasmine and Aladdin from the gum paste and place them on the sides of a tiered cake. Add details using a paintbrush and edible paints.
