Can You Send Video on an iPhone?

The ability to take and send video on an iPhone does not come standard on all models. With the newest version of the iPhone, the iPhone 4, high definition video recording is a standard feature, and you can send videos to other devices. With other iPhone models, you have to do a little additional work to be able to share videos.

iPhone Model

  • Over the years, Apple has released several versions of the iPhone. The original iPhone does not come with the ability to record or send videos. The iPhone 3G was an improvement over that model, but it still did not offer video capabilities. It was not until the iPhone 3GS came along that Apple introduced the capability of video recording with an iPhone. Then the feature remained when Apple came out with the iPhone 4 model.

Recording Video

  • If you have an older version of the iPhone that does not have video recording capabilities built-in, it does not necessarily mean that you will be unable to take video. You simply need to download an application that allows for video recording. If you have the 3GS model or the iPhone 4, you can click on the "Camera" app and then switch it over from camera to video. Then you push the button on the bottom of the app to begin the recording.

Sending MMS Messages

  • Once you have a video file saved on your iPhone, one option that you can use is to send a multimedia message through a text to another phone. To do this, you go into your pictures and click on the "Share" button. Then select "MMS." Once you select the contact that you would like to send the message to, it will be sent through the cellular network. The message can then be viewed on any phones that allow for video playback.

Sending Email

  • Another option that you can pursue is sending the video through an email. To do this, you need to have your email account set up on your iPhone. When you select the video that you would like to share, select "Email" on the menu. Then enter the email address that you want to send it to or select a contact that is saved in your iPhone contact list. The video is sent to the contact's email, and they can watch it on a computer.
