Good Things That Derive From Christianity
Considering the bloody path that religion has blazed upon history through wars and the Crusades at the very least, one might want to know the benefits of any religion, including Christianity. To understand the purpose of the theology, you must understand the man on which it was based. The teachings of Jesus demand personal accountability that leads to social change. Icons like Martin Luther King and Mother Teresa lived lives as a testament to that doctrine, and thus created change in the world.

Charity
-
In Matthew 25 Jesus stated that what his followers did for the poorest and most disadvantaged of humankind, they did for Jesus himself. Charity, therefore, is a high calling among those who would call themselves Christian. In the mid-1800s William Booth delivered this message of Christianity to the destitute individuals in London, England through creating The Salvation Army. This institution has endured for more than a century, providing aid to the poor and help to the disenfranchised.
Healing
-
Likewise, Jesus stated in Matthew 10 his directive to heal the sick, cleanse the unclean and raise the dead. He expected his followers to do this as freely as they had been healed, cleansed and reborn. When Mother Teresa heeded the call to become a nun, her heart led her to the poorest regions of the world to be a comfort for those who had no one. This included those suffering with AIDS. In 1985 she opened her first house for AIDS patients in New York. She called it "Gift of Love."

Justice
-
The Bible frequently directs followers to seek social justice, peace and acceptance. In Romans 12, it instructs to "give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all." Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. took this directive to heart with his personal calling to seek and inspire equality when people of color were oppressed for no other reason than the color of their skin. He led the non-violent charge to seek and create a Jesus-ordained social justice in the place of hatred and ignorance.
Inspiration
-
Christianity didn't just inspire interpersonal relationships and how humans should relate to each other. It has fired creativity and helped define history as man sought to understand the relationship between humans and their gods. Christianity inspired some of the world's greatest art, including the Renaissance era where the likes of Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo brought biblical characters to life in a way that still inspires reverence and reflection centuries later.
