Kindergarten Crafts With Pretzels
Kindergartners will enjoy art projects that incorporate unconventional items like food. Pretzels are a relatively healthy snack, and their diverse sizes and shapes make them an ideal craft supply. Pretzel crafts can not only entertain kids but also teach them important concepts like the alphabet and numbers.

Edible Jewelry
-
String pretzel twists and rings onto long pieces of yarn to make necklaces. Use short pieces of yarn to make bracelets. Make the whole craft edible by substituting a licorice string for the yarn. Use this craft to teach kindergartners about counting. Count together as you add pretzels to the string, and count backward as you eat the pretzels off the jewelry.
Marshmallow Designs
-
Let kindergartners' imaginations run wild as they use pretzel sticks and marshmallows to create designs and shapes. Show children how to connect the stick pretzels by inserting the ends into jumbo-sized marshmallows. See how well children know their shapes and letters by challenging them to construct them from their edible tools. For example, kids can make a square by using pretzel sticks for the sides and marshmallows for the corners.

Log Cabins
-
Tell kids to imagine that the pretzel sticks are tree trunks, and use them to make log cabins or fences. To make a cabin, spread peanut butter on five graham crackers, and cover the peanut butter with pretzel sticks, arranged side by side. Help kids balance four of the crackers into a square. Place the remaining cracker on top for a flat roof. For a sturdier construction, use thick chocolate frosting as "glue" to connect the crackers. Make a simple fence by placing pretzels on both sides of the graham cracker and standing it in a dollop of chocolate frosting.
Pretzel Butterflies
-
Teach children about butterflies by showing them how to use one pretzel stick and two pretzel twists to construct the insect. Instruct children to glue the pretzel stick onto a piece of construction paper. Tell them to glue the rounded edges of the pretzel twists on either side of the stick to make wings. Let children squeeze a thin line of glue on top of each pretzel. Sprinkle with glitter for a shimmering butterfly. Instead of using glitter, children can paint the pretzel butterflies.
Pretzel Skeletons
-
Teach children about bones in the human body by making pretzel skeletons. Beforehand, draw an appropriate-sized stick figure skeleton and copy it onto a piece of paper for each child. Kindergartners can then place the pretzels on top of the stick figure, following it like a guide. Use a pretzel ring for the head, a pretzel stick for the spine, and a pretzel twist for the pelvis. Break round and curved pieces of pretzel for the leg, arm and rib bones.
