Prego is the trademark of a full line of Italian-style tomato and spice-based cooking sauces. The sauces are manufactured by the Campbell Soup Company. Prego sauces are made from simple, natural ingredients and do not contain any artificial flavors or colors and they are ready to use out of the jar. Some of the varieties available include Traditional, Heart Smart Traditional, Three Cheese and Italian Sausage and Garlic Flavored sauces.
Prego Traditional Sauce Ingredients
Prego Traditional Sauce is the most basic of the Prego sauce products. Its main ingredients are tomato puree, containing water and tomato paste, and diced tomatoes. Prego Traditional is sweetened with corn syrup and also contains one or more of the following oils: corn, cottonseed or canola. The sauce is seasoned with salt, onion powder, a spice mixture containing basil, oregano and other spices and a proprietary spice extract. It also includes dehydrated garlic and dehydrated parsley. Citric acid is added as a preservative and acidifier.
Prego Heart Smart Traditional Italian Sauce Ingredients
Prego Heart Smart Traditional Italian Sauce is a low-sodium version of Prego Traditional Sauce. It contains about one-quarter less sodium than the regular version. Its basic ingredients are water, tomato paste and diced tomatoes in tomato juice. This version of Prego is sweetened with sugar and it also contains one or more vegetable oils. The spices and flavoring agents consist of salt, onion powder, basil, oregano, other spices, dehydrated garlic and parsley as well as unspecified natural flavorings. This variety of Prego also contains citric acid.
Prego Three Cheese Italian Sauce Ingredients
Prego Three Cheese Italian Sauce contains the basic tomato paste and water with diced tomatoes in tomato juice as its sauce base. It includes Romano cheese, Ricotta cheese and Parmesan cheese. It is sweetened with corn syrup and contains one or more vegetable oils including canola, corn or cottonseed. Spices used are salt, dehydrated garlic and parsley, basil and others. Prego Three Cheese contains citric acid as an acidifier and preservative.
Prego Italian Sausage and Garlic Meat Sauce Ingredients
Prego Italian Sausage and Garlic Meat Sauce uses tomato puree made of water and tomato paste as its tomato base. Its main additional ingredient is cooked Italian sausage that is made with pork, spices, salt and garlic powder. This variety of Prego sauce is sweetened with corn syrup and includes vegetable oil. Its flavors and spices include fresh garlic and onions, salt and a spice mixture containing assorted spices and basil, as well as dehydrated parsley. Citric acid is added to preserve and acidify the sauce.
