How Much Does a Cosmetologist Make in Indiana?
Indiana, like all states, requires cosmetologists to have a license to practice. To become a licensed cosmetologist in Indiana, most applicants must complete at least 1500 hours of state-approved training, but the state also considers applications from cosmetologists licensed in another state. All applicants must be at least 18 years old and have completed at least the sophomore year of high school or equivalent.

That was about 9 percent lower than the nationwide average for this occupation of $13.02 per hour. The BLS includes tips in its salary figures for cosmetologists, but does not provide data for self-employed workers. The agency says about 44 percent of cosmetologists nationwide were self-employed as of 2008.
