Callaway Big Bertha Specs
The Callaway Big Bertha changed the development of golf clubs for average golfers. Since Callaway introduced the Big Bertha line in 1991, other companies have attempted to imitate the wide-body, stainless-steel driver. A wider club promoted more forgiveness in the club head and made the clubs easier to hit. The Big Bertha line developed over the years into the Diablo Big Bertha, making Callaway one of the market leaders in golf club manufacturing.

Big Bertha Diablo Driver
-
All golf clubs have specifications that figure the loft, lie, weight of the club head, length of the shaft and shaft flex. The Big Bertha Diablo driver is no exception. The club-head sizes are called the club-head capacity or CC of the driver. A Big Bertha driver was the first golf club to use an oversized club head for the driver. All Big Bertha Diablo drivers have a club-head size of 460 CC. Length of the shaft for all Big Bertha drivers is 45 inches and the drivers are the longest clubs in the golf bag. The angle of the driver ranges from 8 degrees of loft to 13 degrees of loft. The loft of a driver is the amount of angle on the club face. The more loft, the higher the ball goes up in the air. The lie of a driver is measured from the center of the shaft to the ground. All Big Bertha Diablo drivers have a lie of 57 degrees. The flex of the shafts is the amount of stiffness a shaft has. The stiffer the shaft, the more club-head speed required by the golf swing. Big Bertha drivers have light, medium and stiff flex. A senior would commonly use a light flex shaft, an average golfer needs a medium flex shaft and the more experienced golfer requires a stiff flex.
Big Bertha Diablo Fairway Woods
-
Fairway woods are the golf clubs used to hit the golf ball off the fairway. A wood provides the golfer with more distance, but less control than a hybrid or iron. The Big Bertha Diablo fairway woods are the 3-wood, 5-wood, 7-wood and 9-wood, with other variations available. The 3-wood has a loft of 16 degrees, a lie of 56 degrees and a shaft length measuring 43 inches. A 5-wood has a loft of 18.5 degrees, a lie of 56.5 degrees and a shaft length of 42.5 inches. Each corresponding fairway wood has more loft angle, more lie angle and shorter shafts. Flex of the shafts are the same as the Big Bertha driver.

Big Bertha Diablo Hybrid
-
The Big Bertha Diablo hybrid takes the place of the longer irons. The club is easier to hit than a fairway wood, but provides the control of a Big Bertha iron. Big Bertha Diablo hybrids have clubs to replace the 2-iron through 5-iron. Each corresponding club has less loft, less lie and the shaft is shorter just like the fairway woods. For example, the 2H Big Bertha has a loft of 18 degrees, a lie of 58.5 degrees and a shaft of 40.75 inches. A 3H golf club has a loft of 21 degrees, a lie of 59 degrees and a shaft measuring 40.25 inches.
Big Bertha X-12 Irons
-
The Big Bertha X-12 irons are the most used clubs in the bag. Big Bertha has irons ranging from 1-iron through the lob wedge. The X-12 irons have 13 different irons available to the golfer. The iron can be broken up into three different categories. The 1-iron through 4-iron are considered the long irons, the 5-iron through 7-iron are considered middle irons and the 8-iron through lob wedge are considered the short irons. The long irons have less loft, lie and a longer shaft. The middle irons have more loft, less lie and a shorter shaft. The short irons have the most loft, lie and are the shortest club in the golf bag. The short irons are used more than any other club in the golf bag because a majority of the golf shots are made from 100 yards or closer. The shaft flex of the irons are the same as the driver, fairway woods and hybrids, with the exception of one additional flex called the firm flex. The firm flex shafts are the stiffest shafts available in the Big Bertha line and are used for fast club-head speeds.
