Slingbox Pro-HD Vs. Slingbox Solo

Slingbox Pro-HD Vs. Slingbox Solo thumbnail
Slingbox connects a home television to the Internet for remote viewing.

Slingbox connects a TV source to a broadband Internet connection so that home television programming can be viewed remotely, in another room or another city. Both Slingbox Pro HD and Slingbox Solo can be connected easily to an HD or SD device. Slingbox Pro HD connects up to three home theater devices, while the Slingbox Solo is limited to one input device.

  1. Connecting

    • Slingbox Pro HD is compatible with more than 5,000 standard definition or high-definition devices and connects to any of them easily. Slingbox Solo supports more than 10,000 devices and models. These devices can connect to standard definition or high-definition televisions or cable or satellite set-top boxes, to DVD players, home security cameras or media centers. However, only the Pro HD model allows users to stream HD television over the Internet.

    Remotely Controlled

    • Slingbox Pro HD lets individuals view their TV programming schedule using the electronics program guide. From a remote location, homeowners can change channels, rewind, fast-forward or pause and set up a DVR recorder easily using the virtual remote control that appears on the screen. Slingbox Solo also has an on-screen remote control that performs the functions of the home remote control.

    Features

    • Slingbox Pro HD allows people to watch their TV and time-shift the television programming up to 60 minutes. Slingbox Pro HD lets users rewind, fast-forward or pause live TV, even if the system is not connected to a DVR at home. Users can also watch and control TV and its entire programming on compatible iPhone, iPad and Android mobile devices. Slingbox Solo does not have these features.

    Internet Connection

    • Both devices are easy to set up. The Solo allows one device to be connected into the unit and then connects to the in-home network. However, the Solo must be hardwired into your home's wireless network, unless a separate wireless adapter is added into the system. The Pro HD features the same level of simple setup. Additionally, the Pro can handle and switch between up to three AV devices and the network integration is wireless. All of the programming is performed on the television screen with the units' remote for both machines.
