There are many possible fun activities for school spirit week.

Spirit week is a long-standing tradition in schools. The week-long festivities are a way for students, teachers and the community to show pride in their local educational facilities. There are many ideas to consider when planning a spirit week. The spirit week activities need to be creative and fun so people will participate.

  1. Dress-Up Days

    • Themed dress-up days are a fun way for students to show their school spirit. There are many options to choose from for the different days. Some options include crazy sock day, backwards day, twins day and school colors day. Dress-up days are especially exciting for students who normally have to wear uniforms. It is important to clearly communicate any rules for dress-up days so that there are not any wardrobe issues at the school

    Class Contests

    • Class contests are a way to get people involved with spirit week. There can be a daily contest between classes to see who has the most people participating in the designated dress-up day. Another idea for a class contest is to collect pennies for a local charity or the school library. The class that collects the most pennies wins a pizza party provided by the PTA or student council. Not only does a class contest encourage participation in school spirit week, but it can also serve as a way for students to be involved with philanthropy.

    Door Decorating

    • Classes can decorate their doors to show school spirit. Students can collaborate with each other to decide on a theme for the door. They can then create decorations to adorn their door for the week. Doors can be judged for creativity and attractiveness in a school-wide contest. Students in a classroom can also take a tour around the school to view the doors of other classes.

    School Dance

    • A school dance is the perfect way to end a school spirit week. School dances allow students to get together to socialize and have a good time. The dance can have a theme, such as Hawaii Nights or a Midsummer's Night Dream, and attendees can dress accordingly. The location of the dance can be decorated in conjunction with the theme and refreshments can be served. Class contest winners can also be recognized at the dance.
