Entrepreneurs located Cleveland can get financial help from several private and government-run organizations. While most of these financial aids are in the form of loans, if you or your business falls in certain categories, you may also qualify for one of the several grants available for entrepreneurs.

Neighborhood Retail Assistance Program

The aims of the Neighborhood Retail Assistance Program grant is to help make the city more aesthetic. Hence, the program provides assistance up to $40,000 to small retail-related businesses to help them upgrade the exterior appearance of their stores. Retail owners interested in applying for this grant must obtain a letter of support from their Community Development Corporation or councilperson.
Workforce Training Grant

Cleveland businesses interested in investing in employee development programs and employee training may qualify for the Workforce Training Grant grant. The grant helps businesses train both existing and new employees and can be used for on-the-job training. The employer must bear 50 percent of the cost of the training program.

Grant Program from Charter One Bank

In 2011, Charter One bank gave $130,000 in grants to help develop Cleveland's West Side Market. If your business is located in the area, you can apply for the grant. In 2011, the last date for submitting the application was Jan. 31 and businesses received the money by March 22.
Grant from Cleveland International Fund

The newly opened Cleveland International Fund announced its plans to award grants and loans from $25,000 to $50,000 to foreign-born entrepreneurs. The fund is especially tailored to help talented foreign-born individuals start their own business. This is still a very new organization but hoped to be able to give out its first grant by June of 2011.
