Fun Ways to Teach Children to Brush Their Teeth
Teaching a child to brush his teeth for the first time is a proud time for a parent. It means that he is learning a new responsibility. Learning to brush the teeth is one of the most important aspects of personal hygiene. Some children, however, see this as a boring chore.

Demonstration on Dolls or Teeth Model
-
Show the child a practical example of what she is to be doing while brushing her teeth. Using a big tooth or a toy doll with teeth makes the lesson more enjoyable to children. Explain the process of teeth brushing and its significance to human health. Create a demonstration simple enough for a young child to emulate so she is able to independently carry out the process.
Brush Teeth Together
-
Create excitement by allowing the child to brush your teeth for a little bit. Encourage him to join in on the action by placing a pea-size amount of toothpaste on his brush. Always allow him to brush his own teeth first while following along with your actions. Demonstrate the various directions of brushing: front, up and down, then side-to-side. Instruct the child to get into the habit of spitting out his toothpaste.

Create Stain Removing Games
-
Make up fun games to grab the child's attention. Allow her to eat some sort of snack or drink a solid colored fruit punch to noticeably stain the teeth. Parents are also to participate in order to build up excitement. Challenge her to a teeth brushing game with the objective of removing all colored stains. This allows observation of the child's technique and to decide whether another lesson is needed. Children are to practice with the use of a mirror.
Use Brush With Favorite Characters
-
The incorporation of a child's favorite characters sometimes make a world of difference. This brings a pleasurable element to the learning experience of brushing teeth. Allow the child to select a fun toothbrush, which he is likely to enjoy using on his own teeth.
