Ideas for a One Night Get Away

Sometimes life can get busy and stressful, and you need a quick break to get away from it all. Perhaps you're working long hours or your children are driving you crazy. All you need is a quick getaway, just for a night, to relax, take some time for yourself and recharge. Take your spouse or significant other with you for a romantic quick getaway if you don't get enough time alone together.

In-Town Hotel

  • You may not be able to go far, but that doesn't mean you can't escape your house for one night. Check into the swankiest hotel in town and treat yourself to a night of indulgence. Since you are only paying for one night in the hotel, you can afford to splurge. Order room service, and include a bottle of champagne if you like. Cuddle up with a loved one and watch a movie in bed, or take a romantic bubble bath together.

City or Country Getaway

  • If you live in a big city, drive out to a tiny town for a quaint evening in the country. Check into a bed-and-breakfast and take a stroll down Main Street to get a feel for the small-town, laid-back lifestyle. Ask locals for a recommendation for dinner, and someone will be sure to point you in the right direction. Alternately, if you live in a small town or the country, get all dolled up for one night in the nearest big city. Check in to a high-rise hotel with a great view and get tickets to the theater. Enjoy a fancy dinner in a restaurant at the top of a skyscraper. If you're feeling up to it after dinner, check out the nightlife district and dance the night away.

Romantic Cabin Getaway

  • Rent a cabin in a secluded, wooded area for the ultimate in privacy and romance. Choose a cabin that has a hot tub on the deck. Enjoy a romantic dinner by candlelight underneath the stars, or set up a blanket in the living area and have an indoor picnic. Set the mood with romantic music, candles and sensuous treats such as fondue or chocolate-covered strawberries. Take the time to re-connect with each other, especially if children are keeping you busy.

Cruise to Nowhere

  • If you live in the New York area, Norwegian Cruise Lines offers one-night cruise getaways, sailing out into the ocean for the night and back the next day. A one-night cruise is a perfect way to sample what Norwegian and other cruises offer for a longer vacation in the future. Enjoy a night of on-board entertainment including musical theater and comedy shows, try your luck at the casino or dance in one of several nightclubs. Choose from a wide variety of dining options, from casual buffets to upscale fine dining. Before the ship heads back to port, check out the spa to enjoy head-to-toe spa treatments. Both Norwegian and Carnival Cruise Lines also offer two-night and three-night weekend getaways from other ports, including Los Angeles, Norfolk and Boston.
