Interviewing for a cosmetics manager position can be an intimidating experience, but there are a few tips to follow that will help you land the job. Cosmetic companies are looking for an individual with a clean, polished look who is confident and outgoing. This individual should be enthusiastic and should wear cosmetics themselves. Wearing makeup appropriately gives a woman the professional look that this type of company is looking for, in order to sell their products. She needs to be goal-oriented and an initiative-taker. In this type of job, you will be assessing skin types and doing make-overs on women of different ages. A cosmetics manager needs to be comfortable working so closely with people and should also be proficient at delegating work assignments to other employees.
The best thing to do for an interview is to prepare beforehand. Do a little background research on the cosmetic company you are interviewing with. Find a couple of individuals who actually use the product and get their opinions on it. Use the product yourself so you will feel confident about what you are going to sell if you get the job. Arriving a little early will help you to relax before the interview begins. You can calm down and think about what you will say. Be sure to bring a list of former employers and references with phone numbers and dates. You will be prepared if asked for them.
Greet the interviewer with a firm handshake and a sincere smile. Using direct eye-contact is an effective way to show that you are interested in what is being said. Let the interviewer know that you believe in their products and that you have a sincere desire to encourage others to use them too. As a manager, you will be expected to work with individuals that will look to you for advice and direction. Show the interviewer that you have a direct style of communication. Use proper grammar. Smile when you speak, and ask questions when you have them. The most important thing you can do in this interview is to discuss your confidence in specific company products that you use. Explain how you will be an asset to the company in selling those products to other women.
Prove to the interviewer that you are a goal-oriented person. This will let him know that you will be mindful of the company goals and that you will be motivated to reach them. Ask specific questions about the cosmetic company's monthly and weekly sales goals. Ask the interviewer if there is a specific product that sells well and if there is one that falls short of the month's goal. Express your desire to create a plan that will increase sales for that particular product. Talk about some previous goals you have set for yourself and what you did to achieve them. Sharing your ideas will show your managerial spirit and ingenuity.
Know the Product
It is unlikely that you will be familiar with every product the cosmetic company makes. Pick a few and try using them a couple weeks before the interview. Notice the difference they make in your skin or any other details you have noticed that you like. Share these with the interviewer. The company is more apt to hire an individual who believes in their products as they do, especially when it comes from first hand knowledge.
