Limes are a small green fruit that are similarly shaped to lemons. An astringent citrus fruit, limes are usually not eaten on their own but are often added to foods and drinks. The fruit is loaded with vitamin C and in the 19th century British sailors would eat them to prevent scurvy. Limes can be used in a variety of home beauty remedies.
Limes can be used to treat unsightly, painful acne. Mix 2 tablespoons of fresh lime juice with 3 tablespoons of fresh orange juice and 1 teaspoon of honey. Combine
these ingredients thoroughly and apply them to your face. Let sit for 20 minutes and wash. This mixture will reduce acne and give you a glowing complexion.
Alternative Acne Remedy
Another acne remedy can be made by combining milk, salt and lime juice. Washing your face with this mixture can clean deep into the skin and reduce acne. Lime juice can also rid you of blackheads. Mix lime juice with rose water and glycerin. Apply the mixture to your face before sleeping.
Tired Eye Remedy
If you've been spending too many nights out on the town, this remedy can make your tired eyes look and feel more lively. Mix 4 tablespoons of lime juice into a glass of ice water. Soak cotton pads in the iced lime water. Close your eyes and place the cotton pads over your eyelids for 10 minutes.
Freckles Be Gone
To reduce the appearance of freckles take two almonds and remove the skins. You can do this by placing them in boiling water for 1 minute, after which you can easily strip the skins. Grind the almonds and mix with an egg white and lime juice. Apply the mixture to your face and let sit until your skin feels dry. Wash with warm water followed by cold.
Lime and Milk Mask
This mask can be used to lighten the skin tone and add glow to the complexion. Add 1 tablespoon of flour to 2 teaspoons of milk and 2 to 3 drops of lime juice. After mixing thoroughly, apply the mask to your face. Leave for 15 minutes. Wash thoroughly. Repeat daily for four weeks, then switch to once weekly.
