EFY brings youth together to strengthen their faith through fun activities.

EFY is an acronym that stands for "Especially For Youth." It is a program in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that is specifically for young men and young women between the ages of 14 and 18. It is usually a five-day, overnight program that begins on a Monday and ends on a Saturday. It consists of talks and devotionals that strengthen teenagers physically, emotionally and spiritually. There are music programs and dances, good food and fun. It is a testimony-building time for the youth of the church as well as for those teenagers who are visiting or who are seeking to become members of the church.

  1. Keep It Current

    • It is important to center your teaching around issues that apply to the youth today. It is good to share quotes and stories from general authorities of the church if they are the most current ones. An inspiring idea that will pack a powerful message is to choose a recent talk from the prophet. Center your message around his counsel. The prophet always speaks on current issues.

    Education

    • Education leads to an abundant life.
Education leads to an abundant life.

Speak to them on the importance of achieving an education in this competitive world. Talk about the influence for good they will be as they accomplish their studies. They will become self-reliant, able to stand on their own and help others. Testify to them how an education will open doors of opportunity to them. The Lord honors hard work and He will bless them for all the effort they have put into attaining their degrees. Discuss the importance of continuing to study the scriptures along with their secular learning. Be enthusiastic as you testify to them that Heavenly Father will bless their secular learning as they give time to their spiritual learning as well.

    Entertainment and Media

    • What they view and listen to affects who they are.
What they view and listen to affects who they are.

In an era when media blasts you from every direction, it is necessary to be proactive in choosing what you will listen to or view. Focus on teaching about the effect that their choices of entertainment have upon them. Constantly listening to degrading music or watching movies that are violent or too promiscuous in nature will lessen their ability to feel the spirit of the Lord. Use the scriptures to show them how this happens by small degrees and how they need to be vigilant in avoiding vulgarity.

    Repentance

    • Scriptures will open their minds to answers and comfort.
Scriptures will open their minds to answers and comfort.

"He who has repented of his sins, the same is forgiven, and I, the Lord, remember them no more." The youth need to understand that they can turn to Jesus Christ in their times of trial and sorrow; that when they mess up, there is a way to overcome it and do better. No one is perfect and by understanding Christ's sacrifice for them, they will come to know God in a personal way. Teach them of His great love for them and that they are and always have been God's children no matter what. Teach them to turn to Him in prayer and scripture study to help them repent when they need to.
