Training Methods for Order Processing
Order processing specialists can work in a variety of settings, including retail shops, call centers and warehouses. Each setting involves subtly different work processes, and requires slightly different training curricula. However, each type of order processing job can utilize the same range of training methods to bring new hires up to speed quickly and help existing order processors to refine their skills.

Classroom Instruction
-
Group instruction in a classroom setting is a proven method of orienting new employees to their new job roles. The classroom can be an ideal setting to train employees on company policies, legal issues and general human resources topics. The classroom can also be suitable for training employees in customer service techniques, anger management and conflict resolution, all of which are crucial in certain order processing settings. Where classroom learning falls short, however, is in training employees to use the company's point-of-sale, POS, ordering system.
Simulated Order Processing
-
Constructing a simulated order processing terminal can be an effective way to train new employees on the basics of operating your POS system. Order processing specialists use POS systems as their main tool to accomplish their jobs. Examples of point-of-sale systems include checkout registers, ordering software in call centers and smartphone software for warehouse personnel. Training new employees on POS operation on the job can reduce customer service efficiency and quality, leaving a bad impression on your customers. Simulated POS terminals allow employees to take their time and make mistakes while becoming familiar with the technology.

On-the-job Training
-
There is no substitute for on-the-job training. Classroom instruction and POS simulations can familiarize new hires with their basic job responsibilities, but on-the-job training can bring new hires up to speed on the pace and stress of the workplace, as well as granting them experience with working on a team and handling issues which only arise in rare instances.
Additional Training
-
Training programs can be just as beneficial for existing employees as they can for new hires. Current employees can benefit from additional training on advanced customer service techniques and advanced POS operations, such as product returns and bank deposits. All order-processing employees may need to be trained if the company installs a new POS system or additional order-processing technology, as well.
