Checklist for Cleaning Your Bedroom for Preteen Girls
Keeping your room clean is important. A messy room causes stress, especially when your parents keep insisting that you clean it, and may cause embarrassment when friends and family stop by unexpectedly. Find a cleaning routine and system that works for you. If your room is messy most of the time, spend a couple of hours cleaning it up each week. Keep it clean by doing a few tasks each morning and evening. Does this Spark an idea?

Daily Tasks
-
Make your bed each morning when you get up. A made bed automatically makes a room look neater. Put your dirty pajamas in the hamper in the morning, and your dirty clothes in after getting ready for bed in the evening. Make sure all trash goes into a trash can and is not left laying around. Do not leave music, books, electronics and other belongings on the floor. They may end up damaged if someone inadvertently steps on them.
Weekly Tasks
-
Designate one day a week, such as Sunday, where you take out your trash. Strip your bed and put fresh sheets and blankets on it. Do your laundry and either hang it out to dry or run it through the dryer. Fold and put the clothes and bedding away when dry. Use this day to vacuum or sweep the floor, and to clean off your desktop. Straighten your dresser top, as well as shelves on this day as well.

Seasonal Tasks
-
There are a few things that need to be done only a few times a year. For instance, windows need a good washing, as will the floor. Turn or flip the mattress on this schedule as well, so that it wears evenly, and move furniture out to clean behind and under it (ask for help from your parents or an adult).
Dust all surfaces and items that are placed on the shelves and hung on the walls. Don't forget to wash your curtains and throw rugs, as well as bed and throw pillows. Hang the curtains back up to dry, hang the rugs outside and rub the pillows through the dryer.
Yearly Tasks
-
Once a year, take the mattress off your bed and air it out by placing it on the porch or in front of an open window, with your parent's permission. Wipe down the walls and be sure that there are no cobwebs on the ceiling and in the corners. Clean out your dresser and closet, packing things that you know longer need into bags or boxes in order to donate them or to have a yard sale.
