Spaghetti is made in a variety of ways.

Spaghetti-based meals are delicious and affordable. They are easy and quick to prepare, and are often a favorite within the family. With the right ingredients, spaghetti night is also healthy affair.

When spaghetti is served more than once a week, it is necessary to switch things up a bit so that the dish does not get old. This is done by trying different dishes until you have a variety of recipes to choose from each week. Add this to my Recipe Box.

  1. Pasta

    • White pasta is affordable, but whole wheat spaghetti is healthier and is also flavorful. Choose between regular spaghetti, or purchase the thin variety which cooks more quickly. When cooked, pasta is not crunchy, but is also not too soft. Cooked spaghetti is served either hot or cold, depending on the recipe and your tastes.

    Sauce

    • There are different sauces that will go well with spaghetti. A basic tomato-based sauce is often used, or an Alfredo sauce. Warm a can of diced tomatoes to use as a sauce for something a little different, or use a sweet and sour sauce. Warm this particular sauce with pineapple chunks before topping the spaghetti with it.

    Cheese

    • As a spaghetti lover, you will want to add other toppings to the pasta dishes that you make. Shredded cheeses are one choice. Shredded mozzarella will go well with spaghetti and sauce. When making a spaghetti bake, a cheese mixture of ricotta, cottage and shredded mild cheddar cheese are one combination. Drop this mixture by tablespoonfuls over the pasta and sauce and warm until the cheese melts and the spaghetti is warmed through.

    Bread

    • One-hundred-percent whole wheat or multi-grain bread or rolls complement pasta well. Honey butter, or cinnamon butter make creative and delicious spreads, no matter which type of bread you choose. Warm the bread in the oven before serving so the butter will melt when it is spread. Garlic bread is another choice.

    Salad

    • Tossed salads go well with spaghetti meals and do not have to be the same for every meal. Mix up the ingredients to create different combinations. Make a salad of greens using Romaine lettuce, spinach and watercress. Add celery leaves. Use shredded Iceburg lettuce and cabbage as a base for a salad that includes diced tomatoes and cucumber. Try a fruit salad using strawberries, melon chunks and apple slices. Experiment with a variety of fruits and vegetables to create salads that you and your family will enjoy.
