Curtain Ideas for Tiny Windows

Save

Tiny windows can be a challenge to cover because often there are very few pre-made curtains to fit their small sizes. Whether you have a small camper window, a round porthole window, an octagonal window or any other tiny window, there is a window treatment that will fit it. Some ideas for small curtains are easy to make and do not take much time.

Pillow Shams

  • Measure your tiny square window and a pillow sham to determine if the sham will adequately cover the window. Make a slit in the middle of each upper corner on the pillow sham, and thread 12-inch lengths of ribbon through each slit. Tie the ribbons around the curtain rod holders on either side of the window. Raise and lower the new curtain by tying the ribbons shorter or longer.

Canvas Squares

  • If you do not have a pillow sham for your small square window, try squares of opaque canvas. Measure your window, and then transfer the measurements to a piece of canvas. Hem the canvas square on all four sides, using neutral or colored stitching for contrast. Slide a curtain rod through the upper hem, and hang the canvas curtain on your tiny square window.

Shade to Curtain

  • Buy a heavy, printed window shade, and cut it from its roller. Fold the shade top over the back, and stitch it together to form an upper hem. Slide a curtain rod through the hem. Loosely wind the shade around the rod to make it easier to place a circle of beads around the rod and curtain to act as a drawstring. Unroll the shade, hang up the curtain rod, pull on the beads and knot them when the curtain is at the desired height.

Embroidery Hoop Lace

  • Unscrew the top screw of an embroidery hoop and separate the two parts. Place a square of lace curtain over the bottom hoop. Place the top hoop over the lace curtain, and press down until the two hoops lock together. Turn the top screw until the hoops fit tightly. Trim off the excess lace curtain material. Screw a small cup hook into the upper sill of a tiny round window, and hang the embroidery hoop from it.
