Newspapers are a long running form of print media.

Electronic media seems to catch most of the buzz in modern times. However, print media is not dead. Print media refers to any type of tangible material that entities can use to convey messages to the general public or to targeted audiences. Print media and electronic media work together successfully for marketing and advertising. Before you devote your entire marketing budget to a website, consider using some basic print mediums are part of your business efforts.

  1. Newspapers

    • Newspapers spent many years dominating the print media world. You may assume that the newspaper is no longer useful to you in the digital age. It is important to recognize that print newspapers do still have some value -- some more than others. A big part of a newspaper's value has to do with your target audience. If you sell a product geared toward seniors, you may do best to spend your advertising dollars in newspaper: As of 2011, older consumers were the most active newspaper readers, and they tend to be less tech savvy than the median. In addition, you can use short newspaper ads -- classified ads can run one line or several -- as a way to get the name of your website name out there. Run a short ad, be it a classified or a small display ad adjacent to news content, in the Sunday paper and be sure to include a link to your website URL. This type of mixed media marketing can increase your web traffic.

    Magazines

    • Although magazine ads are not always cheap, magazines are a valuable form of print media. Make sure to advertise in a magazine that your target consumers will flock to. Make your ads eye-catching and to the point. Do not overcrowd your ad page with too much verbiage. You can always include the web address to your site or blog where consumers can find more information. Aim for ad campaign themes that are not seasonal in nature if you want to have the same ad run in several months' issues of the same magazine.

    Brochures

    • Brochures are a cost-effective form of print media. Brochures make great takeaway items at trade shows and other events. Even if you want prospects to ultimately view your website, giving people a physical handout at an event is a great way to keep your brand on their minds. Make sure to include key points in your brochure about how your products and services can help improve the lives of consumers. Don't forget to include a call to action. A well-written brochure is useless without a phone number or web address.

    Fliers

    • Even something as simple as a flier constitutes print media. Although for a handful of enterprises a flier may seem like a waste of time, small businesses can still use them effectively. Make your flier clean and professional looking. Get to the point about what you have to offer to your target market. Make sure to hand out the fliers at appropriate events. Keep some of the fliers in your car just in case you run into people at an outing who may be interested in your services. Find places to hang your fliers such as on a local library bulletin board or on a college campus.
