This is especially so for University and college students. Lower grade level students could have their travel arrangements planned by school administration. Your checklist in this case should cover everything you will need on the bus trip. Following are the specific steps to create the best checklist for your bus trip.

  1. Discuss and Prepare Itinerary, Expenses, & More

    • Bus trips for student organizations require preparation of a checklist to ensure all the necessary items are carried along for the trip. The group traveling is supposed to discuss the bus trip. Discussion may revolve around travel itinerary and expenses, emergency procedures, loading and unloading safety procedure especially on urban streets. Students with disabilities need to have accessibility options. Student trips need the involvement of an adviser to provide necessary support that may be required in the trip.

    Decide Who Will Oversee The Trip

    • A bus trip for student organizations should have leaders that oversee the trip. When there are multiple buses, then each should have its own captain. The purpose of captains is to oversee who is on the bus. Information about contact details for everyone on the bus should be made available to the captain of the bus and this should be included on the checklist. Whenever someone does not have a cell phone, then she should be linked up with a person having a cell phone. Bus trips need to have maps or directions of destinations for the trip. You should not assume the driver has the information.

    Inspect The Bus Before You Leave

    • There needs to be inspection done to ensure everything for the bus trip is okay before embarking on the journey. The bus trip inspection can start inside the bus. Things to check inside the bus include vehicle documents, glass and mirrors, electric brake assistance, emergency exits and service doors. The alarm system should be operational. Emergency equipment such as first aid kit approved warning devices and fire extinguishers need be included inside the bus checklist. School bus trip should have an inspection report to account for activities during the trip.

    Make Sure Parents Stay Responsible During the Bus Trip

    • Parent's role in bus trip can entail having knowledge about the students bus trip. This involves having a map and directions about a bus trip for students. This is especially so if the students will be driving themselves. Parents are supposed to know what the students will be doing during the trip. The students are supposed to alert parents of any concerns before the bus trip. In case a student has any special need, a parent is supposed to contact the school administration through the teacher.
