Edible Gifts and Wedding Favors
Wedding favors shouldn't be a throwaway, last-minute item on your list. Favors show your appreciation to all your family and friends who put cost and effort into attending your wedding. Return the favor by passing out edible favors, which any guest can enjoy. Sample any favor you choose before ordering so you can guarantee it's good enough to serve to your favorite people.

Cupcakes
-
Sweet cupcakes allow every guest to go home with a bit of your wedding. Order cupcakes from the same baker who's making your cake, or take a drawing of your cake design to a grocery store bakery. Design the cupcakes to look like the larger cake. Box cupcakes up or make them a part of your reception decor. Display cupcakes on a stand outside of the reception area. Guests can choose their own cupcakes on the way out.
Cookie Boxes
-
Between your two families, you're bound to have several special cookie recipes. Cookie boxes help you keep your budget in control and they allow family members to contribute to your special day. Ask family members who aren't in the bridal party to bake up three or four different types of cookies using your family recipes. Place one of each type of cookie in a box, then tie on a card printed with all the recipes.

Regional Treats
-
Use the location of your wedding as the inspiration for your favors. Give each guest a taste of a local specialty. For instance, if you're in an area known for its apples, give guests candy apples or jars of apple butter. For a New Jersey wedding, give out boxes of salt water taffy. If the town is famous for barbecue, pass out bags of gourmet barbecue potato chips. If you don't share the same hometown, give each guest one favor from each of your areas.
Sauces and Spreads
-
Jars of sauces have long shelf lives, so guests can make use of these favors for months to come. Use your heritage for inspiration. For instance, if your family is from Mexico give out jars of gourmet salsa. Italian couples might pass out tomato sauce. For sweeter treats, consider jars of organic honey or dark chocolate fudge. Generic store-bought jars aren't special enough for a wedding favor, so look for local or gourmet vendors to order from.
