Leprechaun Ideas for Halloween
Half of the fun of Halloween is dressing up, as doing so allows you to assume the role of someone or something else, or even something other worldly. If you're looking for an unexpected and an easy-to-make Halloween costume, consider a leprechaun. Since these sprites are typically associated with St. Patrick's Day, it's a surprising Halloween costume and one that you could use over again to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

Clothing
-
The clothing for a leprechaun costume should be predominately made up of green items with a few accent colors. For the top, glue gold buttons down the front of a long-sleeved green t-shirt. Put on a pair of green shorts and tuck the shirt into the shorts. If you'd like, you can wear green, white or green and white stripped stockings or knee-high socks. Attach a pair of green or white suspenders to the shorts and pull them up over your shoulders. Tie a piece of gold or yellow fabric around your waist for a belt. On your feet, wear a pair of black shoes.
The Hat
-
One of the main elements of a leprechaun costume is the hat. Purchase an inexpensive top hat from a costume store and embellish it to give it the look of a leprechaun hat. Cut out a square of gold fabric and attach it to the front of the hat to create the look of a buckle. Place a few shamrock stickers around the hat, or use glitter glue to draw your own.

Hair and Beard
-
Another key element of a leprechaun costume is the beard and the hair, as both the hair and beard of a leprechaun is orange. You can either purchase an orange wig from a party supply store or a costume shop, or spray washable orange hairspray onto your own hair. For the beard, if you can find a fake on that is orange at a party supply store or costume shop, purchase it and wear it. If you can't find an orange beard, create your own by pulling apart pieces of cotton batting and wrap the pieces around a piece of string. Spray the cotton with orange spray paint and tie the string around the back of your head, allowing the beard to hang around your chin.
Accessories
-
Complete the look of your leprechaun costume with accessories. Wear a pair of circular gold-framed glasses, or perhaps a pair of shamrock shaped glasses. Leprechaun's often smoke pipes, so consider carrying one. Fill a plastic witch's cauldron with gold foil chocolate coins and carry it around as your pot-of-gold. You could also paint an empty paper towel tube gold and tie rainbow colored crepe paper streamers around the top of it to symbolize a rainbow.
