Welcoming your future daughter-in-law to the family is important and something she will remember throughout her lifetime. Giving her a gift that signifies her new role in the family should be done so with thought, love and respect. Heirlooms, gifts that suit her taste and things that represent what she means to you are all perfect ways to welcome her.
Giving your future daughter-in-law a family heirloom is, essentially, giving her a piece of your family's history and telling her that you are delighted to include her in your life. Presenting her with a piece of jewelry or other article that has been passed down through generations of women in your family will show her she is accepted, and is now part of the family.
If you know your daughter-in-law would love the pearls you wore on your big day, present her with them on her special day. Walking down the aisle in the same jewelry or veil you wore on the happiest day of your life is something she will never forget. This thoughtful gift will be her something borrowed and make her feel even closer to you as a new family member.
Welcome her into the family by creating a photo album for her with old family pictures. Include photos of grandparents, great-grandparents, pictures from your own wedding day and pictures of your son. Silly pictures that your son has never shown her of when he was growing up can be a fun and creative addition to the album. This gift will give her a piece of family history. Leave the last few pages blank so she can include pictures of her wedding and join the family album.
Creating a book of family recipes for your future daughter-in-law can be the perfect gift idea. If your son is a fan of certain meals like Grandma's pie recipe or your husband's four-alarm chili recipe, include them in the book and help his new wife wow him. Sharing family recipes can show a real trust level and is a great way to let her know you look forward to many family dinners together.
