There are several kinds of mousetraps, including traditional spring-activated traps.

Mice infestation is an unpleasant situation. Mice are often attracted by the warmth of homes in the winter or by the presence of food in untidy houses. Mice that work their way into a home can be difficult to remove, especially if they start breeding. However, there are a number of methods one can use to catch and remove the rodents. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Spring-Activated Mousetrap

    • This is one of the most common, and simplest, ways to catch a mouse. These mouse traps, which are widely available at supermarkets and drug stores, work by setting a spring that, when tripped, activates a hammer that pierces the mouse, trapping and usually killing it. The traps are baited with cheese, peanut butter, or some other food. The traps are not always effective, as mice can sometimes retrieve the bait without tripping the hammer or simply ignore the bait.

    Adhesive Paper

    • Another way of catching a mouse is purchasing highly sticky mousetrap paper, also available at most drug stores. The adhesive material traps the mouse as it walks on the surface.

    Rodenticide

    • Rodenticide is a rodent-killing poison. There are numerous varieties, but generally they work by distributing the poison, which is designed to attract mice, around the house in areas where mice are likely to tread, such as along the edges of walls. Some poison is strong enough to kill the mice after a single feeding but in most cases they are slowly poisoned after consuming the rodenticide over several days.

    Humane Traps

    • Also available are so-called humane traps, which catch mice without killing them. These traps also use bait to lure the mouse in, at which point a spring-loaded door is activated that keeps the mouse locked inside. At this point, you can dispose of the mouse by setting it free outside away from any human dwellings.
