What is the Average Salary of a Medical Assistant of Cardiovascular Technology?
Cardiovascular technologists and technicians work with doctors in treatment of heart and blood system diseases or irregularities. These specialists specialize in ultrasound equipment that takes images of the cardiovascular systems of their patients and also test blood vessels for any blockages. These medical assistants record patients' histories, educate patients on the procedures and schedule appointments. The average salary depends on the specialty, employer and location.

Cardiovascular technology specialists in 2009 earned an annual mean wage of $49,730, according to the survey conducted by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Average salaries ranged from the lowest-paid category at $25,940 a year to top earners at $76,220 or more.

General hospitals in 2009 had 36,990 cardiovascular technologists out of 48,070, which made them the biggest employers of these specialists that year, and paid an annual mean wage of $48,830, according to the bureau. Private doctor offices and medical laboratories followed, with average salaries at $53,000 and $54,740 per year, the third and the fourth highest among employers. Ambulatory health care services and outpatient care centers were last on the list of top-five largest employers with annual mean wages at $49,000 and $48,850, respectively.

The bureau reports that offices of other than primary health practitioners were the highest-paying employers of cardiovascular technology medical assistants in 2009, with an average annual salary at $62,290. Employment services paid the fourth-highest salary of $52,900, while specialty hospitals were at $49,560 a year.

Massachusetts and New Jersey were the top-paying states for cardiovascular technology assistants in 2009, with annual mean wages at $63,720 and $63,140, respectively, as the bureau reports. Oregon was the third highest-paying state at a $61,560 per year average. Washington and Connecticut paid $60,860 and $60,290 per year, respectively.
Two California cities, San Jose and Salinas, were on the list of top-five-paying metro areas, with average annual salaries of $73,620 and $67,560 per year. Allentown, Philadelphia, paid an annual mean wage of $69,760.
