Senior Culinary Project Ideas

Save

Culinary art is the study of food and food-related science. Whether you are in college, high school or culinary school itself, a senior project will most likely be required in order to graduate. A culinary senior project should showcase skills you have acquired over your schooling career as well as prove you are ready for a culinary career.

Green Cooking

  • Going green is a popular theme in the culinary world as well. Green culinary methods can include using organic produce, purchasing locally grown products, growing your own products and raising animals. A culinary project can include a comparison of meals prepared with organic materials and meals prepared with processed materials. Compare flavors, colors and overall cooking methods.

Restaurant Project

  • Individuals graduating from culinary school are most likely going to enter into the restaurant industry on their own. A project where you devise how to open up your own restaurant can be a notable senior project. The project should include establishing a budget, items needed to decorate and furnish, supplies needed and even the creation of a sample menu for the new restaurant.

Creating Extracts

  • Extracts are essential ingredients in the baking and pastry world of culinary arts. They are used to flavor cakes and other pastries and infuse flavor profiles. A senior culinary project can focus on creating extracts going from simple ingredients such as vanilla bean and moving on to flavor combinations such as lemon and basil or lavender and honey.

Fusion Recipes and Cuisines

  • Fusion cooking involves the combination of two different cultural foods into one recipe. Examples can include Asian-inspired tacos or lasagna using Spanish ingredients. Senior culinary projects could focus on fusion cuisine and come up with creative fusion recipes that are not already used in cookbooks or local restaurant menus.

Creating Custom Seasoning Blends and Marketing

  • Seasonings are essential in cooking. They add flavor to meat, depth to vegetables and spice to starches. Many professional chefs have their own blend of spices and seasonings. A senior project can include creating a custom seasoning blend. Aside from the creation of the seasoning or spice itself, you will also have to come up with a name for the seasoning and develop your own marketing technique on how you plan to sell the seasoning or what makes the seasoning special from the others. Prepare recipes that utilize your seasoning blend as well.
