Cute Ways to Display a Gift Certificate Basket at a Fall Festival

Fall festivals often feature raffles or auctions offering themed baskets. Sometimes school classes work on gift baskets to be auctioned or raffled for class fundraisers. One type of basket contains gift certificates often donated from local businesses. Gift certificates, though valuable, are simply slips of paper or plastic cards, so cute displays are necessary to attract attention. Cute displays for a gift certificate basket at a fall festival demonstrates the value of the basket's contents.

Pumpkin Patch Display

  • Paint the basket orange with acrylic or spray paint. Attach artificial green ivy on the center of the handle or handles with a hot-glue gun. Use caution with hot glue; it can burn your skin. Place a piece of green burlap on the table or floor and put the orange gift certificate basket in the center. Surround the basket with artificial plastic, papier-mâché, straw or resin pumpkins. The basket can also be filled with artificial pumpkins. Cut green pumpkin leaves from felt and glue the felt leaves to green satin ribbons. Glue the ribbons to the pumpkins. Tie the gift certificates to the green leaves with green ribbon or attach the gift certificates or cards to the leaves with adhesive dots. Add a winsome scarecrow or stuffed crow to the display. Craft stores sell cute wood signs that could be painted with the words "Pumpkin Patch."

Pot of Sunflowers

  • Seal the inside of small terra cotta flowerpots with water-based polyurethane. Paint the outside of the pots with acrylic paint and allow to dry. Trace and paint a cute flower image onto the pots. Allow the paint to dry. Seal the outside of the pots with water-based polyurethane and allow to dry. Place a Styrofoam ball inside of each pot that is large enough to fit snugly. Fill the pots with dried Spanish moss. Insert a large artificial sunflower into the center of each pot. Fill a large basket with pots of sunflowers. Roll the certificates and tie them to the sunflower stems and leaves. Glue artificial sunflowers to the handle and edges of the basket with a hot glue gun. Spread green burlap on the display surface and put the sunflower basket in the center. Place perky little pots of sunflowers around the basket. Plastic pronged stakes made for displaying a card can be stuck into the pots to give information on the gift certificate basket, such as what organization made the basket or starting bid price. Card-holding stakes can be purchased at craft and florist shops.

  • Cornucopias are baskets shaped like a horn that is used to display fruits and vegetables. Use a cornucopia basket or turn a basket on its side and surround it with artificial fruit. Attach a large bow with many streamers to the top of the basket -- or side if the basket has been turned -- with a glue gun and spread the streamers over the fruits and vegetables. A cornucopia gift certificate basket can be created so the certificates are attached to artificial fruit and vegetables. Use adhesive dots to attach rolled and tied gift certificates to fruit and vegetable leaves, or tuck inside the husks of dried corn. Attaching the certificates to the leaves is a charming way to incorporate them into the basket display. Add dainty pilgrim dolls on each side of the basket, or a charming scarecrow holding the basket information, such as bid price.

Crows and Straw Bales

  • Fill a basket with straw. Place the basket on the center of a square of natural-colored burlap. Purchase friendly-looking stuffed black crows at a Halloween, craft or party store. Glue the feet of one crow to the top of the basket or basket handle. Place other crows into the basket. Tie the gift certificates to the crows wings with black satin ribbons. Purchase miniature bales at craft or feed stores (often only sold during late summer throughout autumn). Surround the basket with miniature straw bales. Stick an adorable miniature scarecrow attached to a stake into one of the bales. Little scarecrows of various appealing designs may be purchased at dollar, discount and craft stores. Additional crows can be glued to the bales. Squat, miniature pumpkins or gourds and other fall-related items can be placed amidst the bales.
