Places to Donate Vehicles to Charity
When you want to get rid of your older car, the first thought might be to sell it. But if you're more of a charitable-minded person as well as desiring a tax break, consider giving your car to organizations that take vehicle donations. Many places like these exist in the United States and are happy to take your car off your hands, even if the car isn't running well.

Cars Helping America
-
This car charity organization claims to be #1 in America. It makes giving a car away very easy with free pickup service and strong affiliations with top charities. The organization also will pick up your junked car and not charge you for the tow bill. One of its aims is to give you as large of a tax deduction as possible from your car as well as providing larger value for the charities Cars Helping America gives to. It aims for this by selling your car for the highest possible monetary value through auctions or on used car lots. The money is then given to charities you request.
Charity Car Donation

CharityCar.us is also one of the leading car charity organizations nationwide. Its mission statement is to take your car and then donate it directly to a local charity. It also affiliates with many environmentally friendly car recycling yards around the United States. Through this procedure, it can arrange to have one closest to your local area come and take your car without charge. Then you can decide where your car goes, either to a church or any non-profit organization of your choosing. The organization will also do all the paperwork for you and provide a tax donation receipt.

DonateaCar.com
-
Power-of-giving.com says the nationally known Donateacar.com is a reputable place to donate your car to charity. This organization has been around since 1992 and has the advantage of picking up any type of vehicle you have, including trucks, boats and even trailers. The vehicle doesn't have to be in good working order, either, for DonateaCar.com to take it away from your home for free. As with most other top car charities, it also affiliates with the nation's top charities that will gladly accept your car. In addition to providing a tax deductible receipt, Donatacar.com will also give you three vacation certificates as a gift.
Things to Consider
-
Environmentgreen.com says that before giving to any car charity, you should first consider a few things. Check the Internal Revenue Service's Tax Information for Charities & Other Non-Profits page to see if your car charity is a registered charitable organization. Click the IRS's "Search for Charities" link in the menu to the left of the screen to search out your charity's name. Also, keep in mind that the tax deduction you take on your donated car can't exceed 50 percent of your gross income. And if the value of your donation goes beyond $5,000, you'll have to have an appraisal in writing from a certified car appraiser in order to take your tax deduction.
