The Best Jobs for the 21st Century
If you think about it, a lot has changed since the dawn of the 21st century. The societal concerns, the way you go about life, and how you communicate are significantly different than they were in the previous century. The way people make a living is changing too. Knowing what this means for the job market is important as young people prepare for their futures. There are some jobs that will be good jobs for the 21st century despite changes in technology and the shipping of jobs elsewhere.

Skill Trades
-
No matter what technology evolves in the coming decades or how many jobs get sent overseas, there are still certain skills that are going to be needed over the next century. The most secure jobs may be the traditional skills and trades such as carpentry, auto repair, plumbers, construction workers, doctors and hair stylists. This segment of the work force has a wide range of skill and educational requirements that will keep many people working for generations to come. Proximity is the key to these secure fields. While companies relocate manufacturing facilities to other countries to allow lower production costs, you won't be able to get a plumber in China to fly to America to fix your pipes. You also aren't going to travel to India to get your haircut or to see a doctor. These professions require people who are in the local area, although there is a threat from cheaper immigrant labor in many of these trades.
Delivery Services
-
As time marches on, many stores aisles get emptier and emptier. This is because of the cost-effective and successful transition of some stores to an online retail operation. Instead of going out on a Saturday to pick up a birthday present for you mother, you can stay at home in your pajamas on your day off and watch the game on TV and log in from your smart phone and purchase the gift and even have it wrapped in some instances without leaving the house. A few days later a delivery service will bring it right to your door. Because of the rise in online retail outlets that rely on companies like UPS or FedEx to deliver their products, the drivers and workers in the warehouses at these companies will have secure employment.

Marketing
-
The change in the marketplace and the free flow of information to consumers will require companies to work a lot harder to garner the attention of potential clients or customers. Those charged with the task of developing marketing strategies for companies will have secure and often high salary employment if they are good at what they do. Innovative thinkers in marketing who can develop a good track record for attracting product attention will play an important role in the future of business.
Possible Future Hot Jobs
-
Imagine if someone had told you in 1975 that you would be a cell phone customer service representative in 2005. You wouldn't know what they were talking about because cell phones weren't available then. Just like the last century, there are jobs that do not exist yet that will be in demand later in the century. According to Popular Science, a few particularly great jobs may be in demand later in the century. Among these jobs are animal migration engineers, who will relocate animals to new habitats as their habitats get destroyed; doctors who specialize in preventing future diseases in the fetus prior to birth; and medical personnel who can manufacture organs from scratch. There will even be pilots of spacecraft that will carry commercial passengers into orbit.
