Things to Encourage a Firmer Butt

Encouraging a firm butt is a three-step process.

If you want a firmer butt, there are a number of different things you can do. For one, you need to encourage the muscles to grow in order to make them more dense by breaking down their fibres through resistance training. You also need to burn the fat around your butt muscles. After all, if you have firm muscles with a layer of fat over them, your butt still won't be firm. So, the key to encouraging a firmer butt is to use resistance training, cardiovascular training and changes in diet.

  1. Squats

    • Hold a barbell across your upper back with your shoulderblades tightened together. Stand with your feet slightly more than shoulder-width apart and squat down, pushing your butt backwards until your thighs are parallel with the ground. Push back up with your heels until you are standing up straight again, and repeat. This burns fat off your entire body by boosting your metabolism and also works your butt muscles, which will make them more firm.

    Deadlift

    • Stand in front of a barbell on the ground, with your shins touching the bar. Squat down, pushing your butt backwards and keeping your back straight until you grab the bar. Make your lower back straight and bring your shoulderblades together, and lift up, pushing with your legs once you get a few inches above the ground. Squeeze your butt muscles once the bar reaches your waist, then return it to the ground.

    Interval Training

    • Choose a cardiovascular activity such as running, swimming or boxing. Warm up for a few minutes, then work as hard as you can for thirty seconds or so, then slow down to your warmup pace for twice the amount of time you were working hard. Next, speed up again, and repeat for 20 minutes.

    Diet

    • Reduce your overall calorie intake, cut simple carbohydrates from your diet, and eliminate fast food, processed food and drinks like soda and alcohol. This will force your body to use the calories it does have for muscle growth rather than storing them as fat, which will cause you to lose fat everywhere on your body -- including on your butt. Less fat on your butt makes it more firm, especially when combined with muscle growth exercises.
