Homemade Halloween Dummy Ideas
Whether you're creating a haunted house or adding some spooky flourishes to your front yard, making a Halloween dummy is a creative way to get into the holiday spirit. Dummies can be created by stuffing clothes with leaves, packing peanuts or paper. Another approach can use building materials such as wood or foam boards. Decorating the dummy is where the real fun comes in. Choose to make your Halloween dummy humorous, ghoulish or nightmarish. Does this Spark an idea?

Mummy
-
Fold the mummy's arms across its chest and press its legs tightly together so the mummy appears as though it's in a tomb. Or, position the arms straight out in front for the "risen from the dead" approach. Wrap the dummy in toilet paper, linen bandages or any other white material you have. Use two large red rhinestones or LED lights for eyes, which can be partially covered by the cloth or toilet paper for effect. Prop this dummy up against a wall or tree, or hide it in a pantry for a practical joke.
Witch
-
Create the witch's face by purchasing a witch mask or by creating your own using paper mache. Purchase a black wig and witch's hat at the local Halloween store. Dress the dummy in a long black dress, either from a thrift store or your own wardrobe. Ideas for positioning this dummy could involve placing her in front of a cauldron so she appears to be stirring some wicked brew or hanging her from a tree with a broomstick between her legs.

Ghost
-
If creating an entire dummy with fully positionable body parts is daunting to you, take a simpler approach by creating a hanging ghost. Acquire a life-sized skull from a Halloween store and attach the base of it to a coat hanger. To create outstretched arms, add wire to either side of the coat hanger. Hang a wispy white hooded cloak or dress on the coat hanger, affixing the cloak to the top of the skull with a drop of hot glue. Hang the ghost from your favorite haunted tree.
Become the Dummy
-
Dress up as a dummy yourself to deliver the ultimate surprise to hapless tricker-treaters. Find your loosest clothing, and cover every inch of your skin with socks, tights and a mask. Stuff your clothes with leaves or stuffing and let it poke noticeably out of your sleeves. Sit awkwardly on a chair on your porch or outside of your home. Place Halloween candy near you to lure unsuspecting victims. When someone gets close, suddenly move or jump forward threateningly. It may be wise to avoid doing this to small children or older individuals.
