Can I Download Kindle Books on My iPod?

Save

Besides referring to the e-reader device produced by Amazon, "Kindle" also refers to e-reader applications that Amazon offers for a variety of devices, including computers, phones and other hand-held devices. These applications allow you to access all of your Kindle e-books through any of the supported devices, which include the iPod Touch.

Supported Devices

  • The Kindle application has been developed for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Your iPhone must have the iPhone 3.0 software update. You can also download the Kindle application for your computer running Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later, Windows Vista or Windows 7, or your Mac running Mac OS X 10.5 or 10.6. Kindle applications are available for Blackberry phones, devices running Android OS 2.1 or greater and phones running Windows Phone 7. The iPad is also supported, as long as it has the iPhone/iPad OS 3.2 software update.

How to Download and Install the Application

  • To install the Kindle reader on the iPod Touch, you need an iTunes account. Once you have an iTunes account, go to the iTunes app store and search for "Kindle." Download and install the app directly onto your iPod Touch, or download the app on your computer and sync it to your iPod Touch. You can then sign in to your Amazon account and download Kindle books onto your iPod Touch.

Whispersync

  • Whispersync is a useful feature of the Kindle -- both the device and the applications -- that synchronizes your e-books. So if you are reading "Treasure Island" on your Kindle, and leave off on page 97, then open "Treasure Island" on another device, such as an iPod Touch, it will open to page 97. Besides synchronizing your place in an e-book, Whispersync also synchronizes bookmarks, notes and highlights among your devices. All you have to do is make sure all your devices are registered under the same Amazon account.

Kindle App Features

  • The Kindle app gives you access to the Kindle Store, which has over 900,000 titles available for purchase. Beyond that, there are thousands of out-of-copyright titles available for you to download free of charge. You can also get free book samples, so you can read the first chapter of a book before you buy it. The Kindle app lets you customize text size as well, so you can read comfortably.
