In today's world of fast fashion and increasing informality in terms of dress, along with the advancement of technologies, there are many options to choose from when it comes to materials used for pants and slacks. Gone are the days when blue jeans were only worn by cowboys or farmers and when businessmen wore suits every day.

While the following fabrics are typically seen in more casual applications, they could also be made into a dressy pant depending on the style, shape, and coordinating pieces of the outfit. Most of these casual fabrics tend to be made from natural fibers, particularly cotton, although they may also have other fibers, such as synthetics, blended in as well.

The following materials are more commonly seen in dressier applications. And while the former category was composed primarily of cotton fabrics, these more formal options are seen more in wools or synthetics.
