Why Does My Acer Laptop 5715Z Keep Overheating?

The Acer 5715Z laptop may experience overheating issues for a variety of reasons. The problem could be caused by a processor fan clog or failure, vent obstruction or improper laptop location, or a video card problem. Overheating issues are common in Acer laptop models, as the machines are assembled tightly. In some instances, the laptop may even shut down on its own when it overheats.

  1. Processor Fan Clogs

    • Even small amounts of dust that get into the processor fan can affect its functioning. Remove all of the power cables from your Acer 5715Z, and open the bottom plastic cover. You will immediately see the processor fan assembly. Blow compressed air into the fan to remove any hair or dust that may be affecting its functioning. Look for any plastic film or tape that interferes with the fan, and push thise to the side. Reassemble the machine and reconnect the cables. This cleaning process will decrease the amount of heat emanating from the laptop.

    Processor Fan Failure

    • Some laptops have defective processor fans. When the processor fan stops working, the laptop cannot keep cool and will overheat. Remove power from the laptop, and lift up the keyboard. Reconnect the laptop to the power supply, and turn it on to see if the processor fan starts up. If the fan asps do not move, you need to replace the fan assembly.

    Video Card Issues

    • The video capabilities of this laptop work well with office, Internet, image processing, and small video editing tasks. There are some games that require heavier processing and video processing needs, however, for which the integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) X3100 is not well-equipped. The solution is to add an external USB video card with better video memory capacity and an external monitor. Or you can refrain from playing this type of game on this laptop.

    Vent Obstruction

    • Because the Acer Aspire 5715Z has the processor assembly on the underside of the laptop, you need to be extra careful with its placement. Avoid using the laptop on bedspreads, pillows or any other kind of fabric, which can interfere with the bottom ventilation, preventing the laptop from eliminating heat efficiently. Place the laptop on a hard surface, such as a table or chair, when you're using it, as this will allow the laptop to blow hot air out correctly. If you need to use the laptop on your lap or a fabric surface, consider placing a cooling pad under it to allow for better ventilation. You should also check the side and bottom vents for dust or hair obstruction. Blow compressed air into the outer vents (as you do with the processor fan) so the computer can better ventilate.
