Schools in Pilot Point, Texas

Pilot Point rests in the hills north of Dallas, Texas. There are four public schools in the city ranging from an elementary school to high school. There are no private schools above the pre-school level and no colleges or universities within the city's borders. The Pilot Point Independent School District boasts a 2009 Class 2A Division I State Championship, which was awarded to the Pilot Point Bearcats football team.

  1. Pre-School

    • Pilot Point Christian Academy caters to pre-kindergarten students. The director of the academy, Karrie Turk, says its slogan is "Living in Christ, loving to learn!" Students are taught a Christian-based curriculum. At time of publication, the monthly fee for pre-kindergarten students on the Pilot Point ISD calendar is $215. Students have a 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. schedule.

    Elementary School

    • Pilot Point Elementary School is a part of the Pilot Point Independent School District. The school serves pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, first and second grades. Students develop skills in language arts, social studies and math. At the time of publication, Rae Ann Strittmater was principal. According to the National Relocation website the student count is around 400 and the student-teacher ratio approximately one teacher to every 16 students. The elementary school received a rating of "Recognized" from the Texas Education Agency in 2010 and 2009. TEA ranks schools from highest to lowest with "Exemplary" being the highest level awarded to a school and "Academically Unacceptable" being the lowest.

    Intermediate School

    • Pilot Point Intermediate School serves grades three through six. The total student count is more than 400 and the teacher-to-student ratio is approximately one teacher to every 13 students. For the 2009-2010 and 2008-2009 school years, TEA gave the school a "Recognized" rating. The school hosts a variety of events, including book fairs, picture days and cookie dough bake sales. The intermediate school has a social networking page where it posts information and updates for students, parents and others.

    Middle School

    • Pilot Point Middle School has a student population of close to 300 with a teacher-to-student ratio of about one teacher to every 11 students. TEA gave the middle school a ranking of "Recognized" in 2009 and its highest ranking of "Exemplary" in 2010. Larry Shuman noted that this was quite an accomplishment especially because the school has a large percentage of economically-disadvantaged students and students who speak English as a second language. Athletics at the middle school include basketball, football, volleyball and track and field. Students may participate in the Bearcat Band if they have an affinity for playing a musical instrument.

    High School

    • Pilot Point High School has a student population of around 450 and a teacher-to-student ratio of one teacher to 11 students. The high school received a TEA ranking of "Recognized" in both 2009 and 2010. Organizations at the high school include the National Honor Society and Student Council. In the area of athletics, students may participate in football, volleyball, cheerleading, golf, tennis or basketball. Clubs include the Spanish club, drama club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. The school maintains a social networking page for students, parents and visitors.
