Valentine Decoration Ideas for a Church Dinner
Valentine's Day provides another holiday where people young and old gather and enjoy fellowship and a meal with each other. Whether you plan an informal party for young people or a more formal dinner for older adults, Valentine's Day decoration ideas are adaptable for a church dinner to suit the occasion.

Red and White
-
Invite everyone to bring out their glass vases, compotes, plates, candle holders cake plates and other pieces to create tablescapes atop solid red tablecloths. Add red and white candles and candles in clear vases or votive holders. Use real or artificial white and red flowers, such as carnations or roses, to vases. Let older guests tell younger guests about vintage pieces and share memories they associate with vintage pieces. Younger guests learn to appreciate the resulting table setting. Silver chargers, candlesticks, serving pieces and utensils work well with red and white, or use clear plastic for easy clean up.
Garlands
-
Cut various heart-shaped valentines from red, pink and white construction paper or patterned card stock. Cut out the centers of each valentine, following the shape of the heart and leaving a 1/2- to 1/4-inch outer edge to form a hollow heart. Make a slit on one side of each valentine and slip it over the side of another heart to form a linked chain of valentines. Tape the slit ends back together. Continue to add valentines until you have a garland long enough to drape along tables, walls or other architectural features in the room. Try suspending matching interlinked valentines from the ceiling or light fixtures.

Valentine China
-
For a fancy dinner, cut out lace doilies or make photocopies of elaborate Valentine-themed designs, Cupids and hearts into shapes that fit between two clear glass plates. Place these Valentine creations between the plates and use each set of two plates as one serving plate. Set matching designs around the table in picture frames.
Vintage Valentines
-
Seek out vintage valentines or old-fashioned valentine cards from collections such as West Virginia Library's (libraries.wvu.edu) online Valentine collection. Print digital copies and photocopy them onto card stock to make duplicates. Punch holes in the tops of the valentines, add red, pink or white ribbon and tie them onto silver or white artificial trees. Use Christmas tree garland and red or pink balls to add greater dimension to the Valentine trees. Place additional copies of the vintage valentines around the tables so guests may read the verses and admire the colors and designs.
