Circular Cookies
-
As most cookies come out of the oven in this form, fondant that accentuates the circular shape will please the eye and offer the right amount of sweetness over the surface of the entire cookie. Yellow fondant cut into a small circle with accompanying yellow triangle shapes will turn a rainy day into a sunny one, when you make sunny shapes for the tops of your cookies. Additionally, use some of that yellow fondant to make a happy face design. Incorporate the use of black jelly beans and a section of a black licorice whip to make your cookie face complete. Dab the back of the candy with buttercream icing to secure them into the fondant.
Shaped Cookies
-
Cookie cutters come in all shapes and sizes; Christmas-themed cookies boast of snowmen and reindeer, while others run the gamut from hearts to teddy bears and everything in between. Make a batch of sugar or shortbread cookies and punch out the shapes with your favorite cookie cutters. Roll out a thin sheet of colored fondant and use the cookie cutter again to cut out the exact shape of your cookie. Brush the top of each cookie with light-colored corn syrup and adhere your fondant shape into place. Let the cookies dry for an hour or two until the fondant hardens.

Miniature Cookies
-
Even tiny cookies can benefit from fondant decorations. Give a batch of mini cookies polka dot pizazz by cutting out small circles from a sheet of fondant with a craft knife. Brush the surface of each cookie with the corn syrup and arrange your dots according to your taste. Put your imagination in gear and cut out ears, eyes, nose and mouth shapes to create your favorite animal or monster character for some mini fun. Use different colors of fondant to make your little treats stand out.
Additional Cookie Ideas
-
Make your cookies look like they came from a professional bakery by using more advanced techniques with fondant. Layer two sheets of contrasting colored fondant on top of each other. Knead them together on a flat surface dusted with powdered sugar to create a marbled effect. Use the blended fondant to make variegated leaf or flower cookies or to simulate the effect of striped or spotted fur. Make your cookies look elegant by brushing shimmery pearl dust over the top of each fondant shape.
