Kitchen Sink Styles
When shopping for a new sink, consider not only the ideal style for your kitchen, but also the optimal size and finish. If your kitchen measures less than 150 square feet, a single bowl works best. Select a double- or triple-bowl sink for larger kitchens. Choose from a variety of finishes, including stainless steel, acrylic, granite, cast iron and more. Does this Spark an idea?

Integrated Sinks
-
Solid surface and quartz manufacturers offer integrated sinks. This design blends seamlessly with the surrounding surface because the fabricator uses one piece of material to form the sink and adjoining countertop. Fused designs mean no rims, gaps or crevices. Grime cannot build up, which translates to effortless cleaning.
Apron Sinks
-
With its exposed frontage, the apron sink derives its name from its apron-like front panel. Also known as farmhouse sinks, apron sinks work well in country kitchens and historical homes. Builders must saw the cabinetry to accommodate an apron sink. Some tile-in sink designs offer exposed apron fronts.

Drop-In Sinks
-
Also known as self-rimming or above-counter sinks, drop-in sinks outsell all other sink styles. Self-rimming sinks require less time to install because they drop directly into the countertop. Fabricators need not spend extra time finishing the edge where the countertop and sink meet, because the sink hides the edge.
Under-Mount Sinks
-
Under-mount or recessed sinks mount below the countertop. With no rim to get in the way of cleaning, homeowners can quickly swipe crumbs into the sink. Under-mount sinks require special fabrication around the exposed edge, which adds to the installation cost.
Universal-Mount Sinks
-
Universal-mount sinks can sit above or below the counter. Because of its flat top, a universal-mount sink offers a sleek appearance when mounted above the counter. When mounted below the counter, this sink design must fit precisely under the finished sink hole.
Trough Sinks
-
Primarily used on island countertops, trough sinks offer sculptural interest. Offered in a variety of unusual shapes and sizes, trough sinks provide plenty of room for the whole family to gather around and participate in food preparation.
