Fish-Shaped Fish Sandwiches
-
Fish is a natural staple for any pirate sailing the ocean. Create a fish-shaped fish sandwich that will satisfy your own pirates. Mix a tuna salad and spread it on pieces of bread to create a sandwich. Use fish-shaped cookie cutters and cut out miniature fish sandwiches. Spear each fish sandwich with a sword-shaped toothpick so the pirate can easily pick up their fish sandwich catch.
Skull Cheese Ball
-
Turn the traditional cheese ball into a ghastly skull that will make a perfect pirate-themed appetizer. Mix together cream cheese and your choice of flavored, soft cheese and fill a skull-shaped mold lined with plastic wrap with the mixture. Let the cheese harden in the mold then transfer it to a plate and remove the mold. Decorate the skull's eye sockets with black or green olives or use red food coloring to create the look of blood. Use cooked spaghetti noodles and make them look like they are slithering out of the sockets as worms or snakes.

Octopus Hot Dogs
-
Give your pirates a plate of octopus-shaped hot dogs for a fun appetizer. To create the octopus shape, cut a hot dog in half two-thirds of the way up, leaving the top third for the octopus body. Cut the two halves in half again and once more if possible to create the octopus legs. Cook the hot dogs in a microwave with the legs splayed out or use tongs and hold the hot dog in a pan of water until the legs start to curl. Decorate the octopus with mustard faces and serve them on a bed of seaweed using shredded lettuce.
Hardtack (or Sea) Biscuits
-
Hardtack biscuits, also called sea biscuits, are a pirate staple on the open seas. These hard biscuits last for days and weeks when no other food is available. Make your pirates their own sea biscuits using only four ingredients: flour, water, salt and shortening. Mix the ingredients in a bowl then roll out the mixture onto a cookie sheet. Bake the dough halfway, then take it out of the oven and score holes with a fork. Place the dough back in the oven to finish baking. Serve the sea biscuits with cheese, meat slices or peanut butter.
Cannon Balls
-
Pirate cannon balls are a sweet treat to add to a pirate table. Mix peanut butter, butter, powdered sugar and vanilla together and roll the mixture into balls. Place a toothpick in each ball, then dip them in melted milk chocolate. Remove the toothpicks and cover the holes with more melted chocolate. Allow the chocolate to harden before serving. Serve the cannon balls in cannon ball pyramid stacks along with your other appetizers.
