Turquoise is a combination of blue and yellow, with an emphasis on the blue. Turquoise is a calming shade that is said to aid in concentration. It's a clean, fresh-looking shade that works as well in a living room as in a playroom. The mood of the room will be determined in part by the colors you introduce as accents. Finding the perfect shade is as easy as looking at a color wheel. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Complementary

    • A complementary shade will always work as an accent color. The complementary color is found directly across from the primary color on the color wheel. In the case of turquoise, the complementary color is orange. Touches of orange in furnishings, such as sofa pillows, throws, flower arrangements and artwork, will provide a pop of dramatic accent color.

    Analogous

    • Found directly adjacent to the primary color on the color wheel is an analogous color. Cerulean blue and aqua blue are analogous to turquoise. You can work one or both of these shades into the room through draperies, area rugs, vases and candles.

    Monochromatic

    • A monochromatic color scheme can be tricky to pull off but provides a rich, dramatic finished look. A monochromatic decor is achieved by limiting your decorating colors to varying shades of the primary color. For instance, if your walls are medium turquoise, add a deeper shade of turquoise in the way of pillows, throws and drapes. Find a lighter shade of turquoise for accessories, such as candles, photo frame matting and flowers.

    Neutral

    • Always a safe bet, neutral colors work particularly well with a color as strong as turquoise. Neutral colors include varying shades of brown, white and black and are easy to introduce throughout room decor.
